Neighborhood Communications

Diane Lauder is the Neighborhood Communications Coordinator for the HOA. She is responsible for sending out information of interest to the neighborhood, including crime watch items. Please contact her at SandyL2@aol.com if you would like to placed on the e-mail list.

Please be on the look out for people fishing and removing the fish from the different city parks to include the pond at Crowley Park. It is against the city ordinance so if you see this type of activity taking place please call an officer out to investigate.

We also had some out going mail taken from the Honeysuckle Drive area. Please place your out going mail into a postal box instead of leaving those items inside your residential mailbox for pickup. The person that picks up those items may not be a mailman.

I now understand the meaning of never say "never" or "it won't happen here." Read on.

Recently, an envelope containing a check that I had written to a local medical establishment was stolen from my mailbox at 3105 Wyndham. I vaguely recall that I left the check in the mailbox at night for the next day pick up by our mailman. That was the biggest mistake I made. Someone picked up the envelope from the box, wiped out my name, the amount, and the For--- information, and created a color copy of my check with my signature in tact. Then this person made the check out to some fictitious name, for a large dollar amount (from the initial $64.00 it was changed to $800.00) and in the memo or For portion he wrote for construction work, and Driver License Number was written with one digit short. This person, reasonably well dressed, took the forged check to a Bank of America office at 75 and Haskell and tried to cash it. The alert Teller saw that he had no account, quickly asked him to give his thumb print on the check, which he did, and then the teller wanted more Id. She drew the attention of the manager, and the guy suspected that he was going to be in trouble. He quickly took off leaving the check with his thumbprint. No money was transacted, thank God. The bank manager contacted me, right away. This happened on Friday the 13th. I took my checkbook with the copy of the original in it, ran to the bank at 75 and Haskell, and then took other precautions to safeguard my account.

Since I had the uncashed forged check with a clear thumbprint, I saw one of the persons at our local police station on Renner Rd. He advised me that since the crime was committed in Dallas, I need to file the report in Dallas only. Even to file a report, I needed to gather additional info at the scene of the crime, get the papers notarized, make two trips, etc., etc. Hassle, for sure. I have filed a crime report (Papers Notarized, and sent by certified mail with a return receipt), strictly for the sake of going on record with the police Dept. They have assured me that they will run a thumb print check in their crimelab, etc. and pursue the case.

Lesson from the story: Keep an eye on strangers, peddlers, and solicitors in your vicinity, and don't leave valuable papers in the outgoing mail in the mailbox in front of your house..

Wavery Trees Update

The trees that were planted this Spring in the common area on Waverly Ct. are doing well, thanks to a wet few months, as the water sprinkler controller had been damaged and was out of commission. It has recently been repaired and so the trees should thrive during the Summer.

The fountain is back

At the Annual Meeting it was brought up that the fountain on the golf course wasn't working and there was a concern about pond scum, etc due to stagnant water. Thanks to City Councilman Dennis Stewart the fountain is now in service again and in addition to being functional it is very scenic. You can view it from the bench in the common area on Wren Ln.

Great News - $500,000 Grant to the Eisemann Center from the TI Foundation

The City of Richardson and Texas Instruments Foundation announced today a grant of $500,000 from the TI Foundation to the Charles W. Eisemann Center for Performing Arts and Corporate Presentations to help fund the center's much-needed Phase II capital projects. The donation will boost performance capabilities and enhance patron amenities, further establishing the Eisemann Center as one of the leading performing arts and corporate meeting facilities serving the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

DUCK INN
A few weeks ago Lynn & Jerry Adamic on Wren Lane discovered a nest in their front yard with duck eggs in it. They erected a fence to protect the nest (and graciously informed the HOA board) and the ducklings have hatched and are now enjoying their accommodations.
